HISTORY
In 1988, a group of women saw the need for a professional women's group devoted to the concerns and issues surrounding the building industry in the Los Angeles area. Formerly known as the Professional Women's Group, thy group chartered with NAHB, the National Association of Home Builders, under the auspices of the BIA of Southern California. [Since it's founding in 1989, the members of the Women's Council of Greater Los Angeles and Ventura Counties have actively supported Mead projects for the transitionally homeless and shelters that provide safe refuge for women and children who are victims of household violence] Women's Council's long standing history of successful events such as Spring Basket, Model Home Furniture Sale, and Architectural Drafting Competition enabled our council to provide several scholarships to individuals who desire to further their education within our industry.
In 2005, the Women’s Council went in-house into the governance structure of the BIA of Southern California. This enabled the Women’s Council to expand their membership base throughout Southern California and into the local BIAs. By the end of 2006, Women’s Council had formed three distinct divisions of Women’s Council and by September 2007, added an additional two. The GLAV division was the first, followed by Orange County and Riverside. The Desert and Baldy View divisions were formed most recently.
